***** THANK YOU FOR WATCHING *****
#ASKMARK There appears to be extensive information that highlights the greater benefits of nitrox diving over air. If nitrox is the best gas to benefit the recreational diver then why not bypass air and begin instructing students on how to best use nitrox from lesson one of open water recreational diving? Yes! It’s another qualification process and additional revenue but do we need to revisit instructing methodology from a ‘cost -v- benifit’ equation – from a students perspective, especially the monetary outlay when all things relative to using air become redundant, and further expenditure is necessary to become nitrox qualified to enjoy more ‘bottom time’ safely?
It’s an extra course to sell to students and more complex information for them to learn when they’re still earning the basics. You could combine the Nitrox course into the foundation course but, it’s a lot to load on students that are already learning a lot of new concepts.
That being said, some students should be able to continue onto Nitrox very easily and I wouldn’t be surprised if some Intructors did offer the course to some students.
Most capable students tend to grasp and pass their open water certification quickly and in their enthusiasm, like me, jump into investing in their own gear. As time and dozens of dives pass, they elect to take nitrox certification and subsequently find some of their gear is redundant, especially wanting to dive with twins but your jacket BCD can. only. use singles. nitrox diving benefits should be included into basic training and also include time spent on what dive equipment has dual gas benefits ie. Air -v- Nitrox and how the extra cost of buying (say) an AP Diving ‘Tec Wing’ or AP ’Commando’ etc. opens up another world of recreational and/or technical diving. Not a criticism of dive instruction. Just an opinion for discussion from fellow divers who love exploring other worlds beneath the waves. 🤿🇦🇺👍 @Scuba Diver Magazine
I don’t “better” I feel less tired after multiple dives. My 2c.
I feel so much better when I dive nitrox, and don’t have to spend time in a barometric chamber
I deffo feel better after a nitrox dive for sure. I understand that this is likely to be all in my head, but whatever works!! 😎😎
Thats interesting how many people say that. I feel better too. Funny that there is no scientific explanation for it.
